Deborah has provided her top tips of how to take control of your wellbeing and achieve your goals.
Be realistic about what you want to achieve and how you can accomplish it. Taking smaller, more manageable steps will improve your chances of sticking to it rather than burning yourself out too early on. Our goals are often too ambitious and quickly become demotivating when we can’t see them through. Tiny changes in the beginning will count towards your longer term success.
Maintaining motivation is important, particularly at a time of year when the days are shorter and colder, making it more difficult to stick to your health plan. Once the excitement of a new goal wears off, so does the enthusiasm. Find something that drives you and you’ll be less likely to fall off the health wagon.
Putting pen to paper makes it become a commitment as it reinforces our subconscious. The more we tell ourselves what we want to achieve, the more likely we are to make it happen.
Tracking your progress is one way of remaining focused and remember to reward yourself. If a reward can keep you motivated for 21 days, then you will have changed your habit too. Our mind memorises patterns, so doing something over and over, will build your willpower and self-discipline.
So often we tackle things with a pessimistic view. Instead, celebrate what you have accomplished rather than what you still have to do.
We’re addicted to technology, but our brains need some downtime too. Unplugging from your smartphone – even just for an hour – to simply relax, recharge and reset will increase your sense of being fully present and allow you to take a much needed breather from all of that ‘FOMO’.
