Sleep and rest are vital for maintaining good health, but so often we suffer from tiredness, lack of motivation and reduced productivity due to missing out on crucial hours of good, quality sleep.
According to the NHS, 1 in 3 adults suffer from sleeping problems, often blamed on work-related stress and computers, which over time, can put people at risk of serious medical conditions. Matthew Walker, the author of Why We Sleep argues a causal link between sleep-deprivation and physical health such as chronic conditions (diabetes, digestive problems, migraines), heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s, as well as our mental health including anxiety and depression to name a few. The recommended amount of sleep for the average adult is around 8 hours, but with the busy working lifestyles of today, many function on just 6 hours due to a restless sleeping pattern.

Our Yin Yoga Teacher Training course is a 4-day immersion taught by Senior Yoga Teacher, Dawn Wright. Dawn has studied with many inspiring teachers including Sarah Powers. She has over 20 years teaching experience, trained hundreds of yoga teachers since 2012 – so you’re in good hands if you decide to train with Dawn at Whitespace!
This course you’ll explore Yin Sequencing, the use of props and modifications, deeper teaching skills, the history of Yin Yoga, Chinese Meridian Theory, fascia and skeletal variations in Yin and Meditation practices.
Restorative Yoga Teacher Training
Restorative yoga is a relaxing mix of supported, passive poses held over long periods to evoke deep relaxation, healing the nervous system and supporting healthy organs. There are many benefits of these classes – it helps with blood pressure, immune function, digestion, fertility and elimination.

Take steps to avoid burnout
We know that being a yoga teacher is not just a life of glamorous classes and travelling, it’s your version of building a livelihood, running a business and juggling that with day-to-day life. It’s quite easy to get caught up in it all and experience the feeling of burnout.
Making conscious decisions to not overdo it, be smart about how you schedule your time, expand your teaching knowledge by continuing to take classes you enjoy and always remember to treat yourself. But most importantly, breathe. Take time for yourself and never neglect your own wellbeing while helping others with theirs – this includes sleep! During your back to back classes and busy routine, ensure you don’t sacrifice those precious moments of rest or hours of sleep that can work wonders.
A healthy rest and sleeping pattern is important for everyone, students and teachers alike. So it’s good to remember to stay on top your own rest as well – adding these calming styles to your schedule will not only help your students but will also promote your own healthy rest and sleep routine.
We welcome new and established teachers to join us in our training courses to refresh, renew and deepen their practice. Our other advanced teacher training courses include iRest Yoga Nidra Teacher Training, Vinyasa Flow Teacher Training and Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Training – all of which are great additions to any teaching schedule and offer incredible benefits for both you and your students.
If you’re struggling to get enough zzz’s, try the podcast ‘Sleep With Me’ as recommended by Senior Yoga Teacher, Deborah Berryman. It helps your brain stop thinking about 100 things!
