Preparing for class

The Whitespace Yoga experience is more than just a class; you’re part of a community.

We would like you to enjoy and get the most out of every experience. We have a space for drinking, sparking up a conversation or you can sit quietly and read. Come as early as you want to soak up the relaxing atmosphere. This is your time and place.

All of our classes offer a comfortable, safe and welcoming space in which to explore the body, mind and breath. We want your first class to be one of the best choices you’ve ever made.

What to expect

  • As with any exercise program, it is always a good idea to consult your doctor prior to participating. If you’re unwell, please stay at home, keep your community safe.
  • It is best not to eat before class or eat very lightly.
  • Try to avoid caffeine and nicotine for at least 1 hour before class.
  • You’ll need to use a sticky yoga mat. Please bring your own mat. We’ll provide any other props being used for the class. Having your own mat has the obvious hygiene benefits and supports your commitment to your practice. You can pick these up from most major retailers or we do have nice mats available to purchase at the studio.
  • Be prepared to work in bare feet.
  • Comfortable, form-fitting workout-style clothing, allowing the teachers to be able to see your alignment in poses more easily, especially the knees, hips and spine.
  • Layers help to adjust for temperature changes during and after class.
  • Please use good hygiene and do not wear strong deodorants or perfumes.
  • If you can, arrive 10 – 15 minutes early to check in, find a space and prepare yourself.
  • Whitespace is a mobile and shoe free zone. Enjoy this time by removing your shoes and keeping mobile phones switched off and out of the studios.
  • If you are new, be sure to introduce yourself to the teacher and let them know how much experience you have.
  • Always inform your teacher if you’re pregnant or have any health concerns/injuries.
  • Out of respect for your teacher and fellow practitioners, we don’t allow entry to a class if it has already started. We understand that traffic can be busy but we kindly ask you to honour this policy to avoid any upset.
  • Enjoy yourself! Stay focused and keep your awareness on your breath.
  • Remember, the practice of yoga is enjoyed much more when we listen to our bodies. Don’t push past your limits, maintain a good attitude, keep an open mind, and breathe.
  • Try not to look around and watch other students. Keep your attention on yourself, and/or the teacher. This is your practice.
  • Above all, please be respectful and considerate of the other students in class and extend the same courtesy to yourself.
  • Practice as often as you can. Two to three times per week will show improvement for most students within three months, but quite often sooner.
  • We LOVE talking about yoga and pilates! So feel free to speak to your teacher or our front-desk and ask all of those questions you’re dying to ask.
  • We want you to get the most out of the programme and your time with us, so please ensure you can attend the scheduled number of sessions. We cannot offer refunds or date transfers for students who are unable to attend some or all of the classes on their course due to illness, work, family or other reasons. You can see our Booking Terms for more information. Thank you for your understanding.
