Join some of the Whitespace team for an authentic yoga retreat in the Moroccan countryside. Energise and relax for 5 nights in this secluded and enchanting setting.

The villas and suites are designed for you to be as private or as social as you wish; it is always easy to find your own space. Beauty treatments and Moroccan cookery lessons are available on site and other activities & excursions can be arranged at the venue.

This is the perfect spot for sun salutations or relaxing with a sundowner!

SUMMARY

Dotted amongst pomegranate, lime and olive trees all beautifully underplanted with roses and geraniums are these well-designed and appointed villas & suites with great outdoor space. Some have roof terraces and plunge pools. The 15m swimming pool provides the perfect cooling off spot and has a shady bar close by which is well-stocked with imaginative cocktails & fresh fruit smoothies. Dine alfresco on delicious traditional Moroccan cuisine. The roof terrace is perfect for outdoor yoga and meditation, with stunning Atlas mountain views. There is another outdoor shala with a domed roof. Siestas are the order of the day so numerous shady day beds, bean bags or open Berber style huts are popular. The vibe is Moroccan to the core.

This retreat is perfect for anyone who is looking to get away from it all, to relax and unwind and enjoy beautiful surroundings in warm sunshine. All levels of practitioners are welcome and encouraged. Classes are all open level so there will be lots of options to tone down a posture or take it to the next level. Every student is encouraged to work to their own ability and limits – just bring your heart and spirit!

About Ali Futrill
Ali brings a positive, supportive energy to my classes; they are energetic but accessible, allowing you to become more aware of your body and breath through your practice. Her teaching style is energising but relaxed, fun and aimed to let you leave the everyday stresses behind. To empower you to try new things, to have some fun on your mat, and to just breathe!

“I love the way yoga has been a constant, steering me through life’s ups and down. A friend once described her yoga mat as a magic carpet and I totally get that now. My mat has seen all my emotions, the good, the bad, the ugly and never judges. It’s my safe place.

My mantra is to have fun, believe in yourself and smile!”

About Anna Orlando
Anna is trained in Ashtanga yoga and she also teaches Hatha, Yin Yang and Vinyasa flow classes. She teaches what she knows; her classes are a journey into the physical body and comprehension of each pose to suit each individual’s limitations and ability. Anna truly believes that we are all teachers and students of our practice.

“My first love is nature and trees. I planted 300 pistachio trees at my farm in southern Italy by following the Maria Thun biodynamic calendar. This widened my perception of energy, its flow and its connections and led me to my first introduction to Yoga”.

ACCOMMODATION
Rooms are arranged in a tastefully designed and fully staffed complex of villas, garden suite and eco suites, designed for you to be as private or as social as you wish. The villas have plunge pools and there are abundant terraces and gardens to relax outdoors. The eco villa suites are constructed from empty plastic bottles filled with sand and over 500 empty wine bottles have been used as bathroom windows. The floors are covered in varnished, recycled brown paper bags.

ABOUT THE RETREAT

Check In time
After midday Thursday 21 September

Check Out Time
Before midday Tuesday 26 September

Arrangements may be made for a later check out if the room has a late arrival. You are not charged for late check outs. In any event your hosts will be pleased to look after you and your baggage until you are ready to leave for the airport.

The retreat includes accommodation, yoga and meditation sessions and all meals including dinner on arrival and breakfast on the day of departure.

All classes will be mixed level, so we will make sure you get the attention and support you need.

You will always learn something, especially if you have been self-practicing. Our teachers are of very high standard and will give you the personal attention you need. There will be plenty of variations on offer for you to really challenge yourself and explore new dimensions to your practice.

You are perfectly welcome to stay with your partner, family member or friend who is practising yoga with us without joining the classes, or choosing just to do the relaxing and mindfulness ones.

  • Yoga mat; mats are provided but you may prefer to bring your own. Props are provided.
  • European plug adaptor. The voltage is the same as in the UK using a standard European two round pin plug.
  • Morocco is a relatively liberal Islamic country which welcomes tourists who are sensitive to local traditions. Shorts and short sleeve tops are fine when you are out as long as they are not too revealing. It is not advisable for women to wear clothes that reveal too much cleavage or are too short.
  • A wrap/warmer clothing for the evenings and early mornings.
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, flip flops or sandals, pool gear; everything you normally like to take for a sunny holiday.
  • If you require special milks (soya/almond etc) or gluten free breads etc, it is best to bring with you as they are difficult to find in Morocco.

ABOUT THE LOCATION

Citizens of EU countries, including Britain, do not need a visa for tourist visits of up to three months. Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay in Morocco. No additional period of validity beyond this is required.

The Dirham is not allowed to be taken out of the country in amounts larger than 1,000 dhms, consequently it cannot be purchased before travelling. Moroccan dirhams are sometimes available in other countries (UK/US /Europe etc) but you will not get a good exchange rate, and so it is best to use an ATM at the airport, or wait until you go into town.

A bureau de change is available at Marrakech airport and there are ATM machines both at the airport and in the city. Scottish notes are not accepted in banks in Morocco and many banks are uncomfortable about accepting travellers cheques.

£1 sterling is approximately 12 Moroccan Dirhams.

In September days are usually hot with balmy evenings. The average daily maximum is 28 C and the average daily minimum is 18 C.
Like any country you visit worldwide it is best not to travel alone after dark. It is generally very safe however.
Transfers can be arranged by the venue and we will send details nearer the time.

The cost of a return trip into Marrakech  from the airport is 400 dhms for up to 4 people. It costs 500 dhms return for up to 8 people in a people carrier.

There are no necessary vaccinations for travelling to this part of Morocco. https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/country/154/morocco

The venue filters their own water and it is tested regularly. It is free of charge to our guests.
The venue has access to an English doctor. A couple of good hospitals are easily accessible.
Morocco has an excellent modern mobile phone infrastructure which also supports 4G and data roaming. However, it is advisable to check charges with your mobile provider before using your phone extensively to avoid unpleasant surprises. We do have free Wi-Fi which it is strongest in the bar/communal areas, but is available in all the villas.
The venue offers beauty treatments, hammam and massages, cookery classes and henna treatments, by appointment. Otherwise, a trip into the souk or maybe the Majorelle Gardens is bookable when you are there.
Various nightlife activities can be found in the town/medina.
Tipping is at your discretion, you certainly should not feel any obligation. Many guests hand a personal gratuity directly to the member of staff who has facilitated their stay or to other individuals as they see fit. However, the venue owners prefer all tips to be handed to them, so that they can be shared out. They find this is a nice way of showing appreciation to those whose contribution may be less visible (eg the night guardians, kitchen staff).
Leather goods, argan oil, wood and spices are all popular purchases.
